What does “Dahon” mean?

"Dahon" may simply mean "leaf" in Tagalog, but to me, it symbolizes something much more profound - my Filipino identity. As a Filipino, I am proud of my heritage and wanted to showcase it in my social media presence. That's why I chose "Dahon Diaries" as my Instagram name and now evolved into my small business.

Every time I see my handle, I feel a sense of connection to my roots, a reminder of where I came from, and the culture that shaped me. It's more than just a name; it's a representation of my identity, my values, and my history.

Plant Care

What to do when my plant arrives?

Woohoo! Your plant made it all the way from sunny San Diego! Ensure that you unbox it promptly upon delivery and avoid leaving the package unattended on your porch or in a postal locker. After thoroughly inspecting your new plant, it's advisable to isolate it from your established plants initially. Although we conduct meticulous inspections before shipping, it's always a good idea to exercise extra care when introducing a new plant to your collection. If the planting medium feels dry, you may water it lightly. However, if it's still damp or wet, it's best to wait a few more days before watering. To minimize any potential stress during shipping, our plants are shipped in their current pots. It's suggested to allow your new plant to acclimate to its new environment for a minimum of one week before considering repotting.

What growing medium do you use?

I exclusively use a soilless medium composed of coco coir and perlite for all my plants, and it's been a game-changer. The fast-draining nature of this medium ensures that I can never overwater my plants, which is a huge relief. Moreover, my plants absolutely thrive in this medium and have never been healthier.

What are your growing conditions?

I aintain a year-round temperature range of 75-80°F and carefully regulate humidity levels to remain between 60-75%. To ensure healthy growth, my plants are exposed to full spectrum grow lights on a 14-hour cycle, followed by a 10-hour rest period.

How do you fertilize your plants?

To fertilize my plants, I use General Hydroponics products such as Armor Si, Calmagic, FloraMicro, FloraGro, and FloraBloom, which I carefully mix in that specific order with 5ml of each nutrient per gallon of water. Make sure you mix well after each nutrient before adding the next one. Then, I regulate the pH level to 6.0, which is a crucial step to enable the plants to effectively absorb the necessary nutrients. It's highly recommended to use room temperature water when watering your plants. Watering your plants with cold water can cause root shock, which negatively impacts their growth.
